February 1st Update!

After a January 30th BBSA e-mailing was sent out regarding the need for managers and coaches to pass a Babe Ruth certification test, the Massachusetts Babe Ruth Organization informed us that they have postponed the date of requirement for accreditation, until the Summer Travel Teams start their season.

Their feeling was that there was not enough time for all coaches to take the test before the Spring Season starts.

Simply stated, that means that managers and coaches who participate ONLY in the BBSA Spring Season Leagues have until the beginning of the 2009 Spring Season to pass the Babe Ruth accreditation test referred to below. ALL BBSA managers and coaches who will participate in Summer Travel Team Leagues (which are associated with Babe Ruth or Ripken, baseball and softball) MUST take and pass the test before that time. In essence, Spring coaches have a year to get accredited. Summer Travel coaches need to get accredited before the summer.

ON-LINE CERTIFICATION!  "Wow, is this easy!"

NOTICE!

Beginning with the 2008 season, Babe Ruth League, Inc. is requiring that all rostered managers and coaches are required to complete coaching education and certification.
The BBSA will pay the cost of the certification. All you have to do is go to the Babe Ruth Website, pay the fee up front ($20) and take the online test. The BBSA will reimburse you*.

The following letter was sent to the BBSA by e-mail on January 28. It explains the idea behind the certification, and provides a link to the part of the Babe Ruth website where you can take the test. ALL managers and coaches, from Ripken A and up, and ALL 3 Softball league managers and rostered coaches MUST take this test BEFORE they can coach in the Spring BBSA Season. So, read the letter below, go to the Babe Ruth Website http://www.baberuthcoaching.org and take the test. For reimbursement directions, scroll to the bottom of this page.

Note* You may take this test as many times as you want, until you pass, for no extra charge.

 Earl, that Baseball Junkie says......

"Hey guys, I know this is a hassle, but it's mandated by the Babe Ruth Organization and EVERYONE has to do it (even me, and I don't even run a team) !

So..... "step up to the plate" and do it this week!  Spring League coaches have over a year to get accredited, but Summer coaches have only until

the beginning of the Summer Travel Team season.

The test is easy, it's online, and it's a MUST DO if you want to coach!   So do it AS SOON as possible.

Exciting News on Coaches Certification

As you know, beginning with the 2008 season, Babe Ruth League, Inc. rostered managers and coaches are required to complete coaching education and certification.

We could not be more pleased with the response to the Babe Ruth League Coaching Education and Certification Program and with the comments we’ve received regarding its contents and value to our coaches. With that said, I am delighted to bring you even more good news: When we initially put the program in place, we felt it necessary for coaches to recertify every three years, but after consulting with Babe Ruth League administrators and coaches in the field, and taking the coaching education course ourselves, we at Babe Ruth League National Headquarters have decided that the course that we have developed in conjunction with Ripken Baseball, Inc. and the American Sport Education Program provides coaches with a wonderful foundation. Thus, any coach who successfully passes the Babe Ruth League Coaching Education and Certification Program will receive a certification that is valid for their entire coaching career with Babe Ruth League, Inc. This also applies to any coach who has already taken and successfully passed the Babe Ruth Coaching Education and Certification Program.

We still feel continuing education is important for our coaches and we’ll continually be looking into ways that we can provide additional educational opportunities for our coaches. For now, however, please ignore references to the three-year certification in marketing materials currently in circulation. We’ll change the language on the various Websites as soon as possible.

We are proud to stand behind the “Babe Ruth League Coaching Education and Certification Program”, which teaches coaches to keep the game fun and simple for the kids, making sure their experience is enjoyable. It is evident that our coaches agree with us due to the overwhelming response and interest in the certification program.

We reviewed many coaches’ training courses and the choice was simple. The American Sport Education Program’s 25 years of sports education experience, coupled with the principles of “The Ripken Way” was the best and only avenue to take to arm our coaches with the resources they need to make the game better for even more youth baseball and softball players.

Encourage your coaches to gain their lifetime certification today by visiting http://www.baberuthcoaching.org.

*BBSA Reimbursement Policy

Once you have passed the online certification test, the Babe Ruth Organization will send you a congratulatory e-mail, confirming that you took and passed their test.

Save this e-mail, but also forward a copy to the BBSA Treasurer, Joanne Bemis at jbemis@boston.cbs.com. You will be reimbursed.
