The Baystate Travel Teams

Consists of 10 yr old team(s), 11 yr old team(s) and 12 yr old team(s)

The Burlington Baystate Teams (11 yr old and 12 yr old) will each play in 3 series of 6 games (the 10 yr old team will play in 2 series of 6 games) "trophy rounds", with other teams from Massachusetts.  After each series of 6 games, the best teams will playoff for trophies and the championship of that round.  Consequently, each team is guaranteed to play at least 18 games (12 games for the 10 yr old team) (barring rain and unforeseen circumstances), and more, if they make the playoffs of any round.  The Baystate League usually runs between the 1st week in July and the middle of August.  There is a full time roster of 12, with an option of 8 alternates (these alternates will not uniform up, and do not need to attend games, unless called in advance by the manager. Anyone in uniform and on the 12 man roster for any particular game, will play in that game), for a total of 20.  These teams will be chosen thru a 2 day open tryout on TBD.  The teams will be chosen by an evaluation committee*, made up of managers/other adult baseball personal associated with BBSA (*two main roster players will be chosen solely by the manager of the team).  Players trying out will be judged on hitting, fielding, throwing, and running and in other areas, over a 2 day period.  Parents are welcome to watch.  * Note -It is not mandatory for players trying out to attend both days, but it is strongly encouraged.  Registration payment is due at the time of the tryouts; refunds will be given to those applicants who do not make the teams.

Players are issued a complete uniform, the VEST must be returned at the end of the summer season.   $175 per player / registration fee collected when team is picked

The Ripken Travel Teams

Consists of 9 yr old team, 10 yr old team, 11 yr old team and 12 yr old team.

The Ripken Travel teams play in a double elimination tournament in their district, against other town's Ripken All Star Teams.  If they win "The Districts", they play in a double elimination tournament for the state. If they win "The States", they play in a double elimination World Series tournament for the New England Championships. And if they win that, they go to the Nationals, for the Ripken National World Series. This year, there is a National Ripken World Series Tournament for all 3 age groups, 10, 11 & 12. Because this is a double elimination tournament, it is possible for this year's teams to be completely eliminated after only 2 games, before the summer has barely begun.  It's also possible to make a strong showing, as many of our teams have done in the past.

A full time roster of 12 will be chosen for each of the Ripken Teams (ages 9, 10, 11 & 12), with 3 alternates who will absolutely not suit up or play unless called by the manager.  Because of the competitiveness of this league tournament, and the possibility of early elimination, (our Ripken teams only have to lose 2 games in one round to be eliminated), the managers will play only the players they choose to; that is; managers will play to win, even if it means playing only 9 players in any or all games. In other words, in this competitive tournament, it is possible for a player to be chosen as one of the 12 full time roster players, and still not get as much playing time as he might want.  Both the players and the parents should be aware of this possibility before registering for tryouts on this team; a player may want to sign up for both Ripken and Bay State to increase his playing during the summer

(* Remember - A suited player on the roster of the Bays State team must play in the game. While Bay State is competitive, it is slightly less so, because of its inclusive playing rule).

These teams will be chosen by the managers of each league depending on performance in our spring season play.

BBSA supplies complete uniforms to the players, the VEST must be returned at the end of tournamenplay.       No Registration fee

The Softball Travel Teams

Consists of 12 & under, 14 & under and 18 & under teams

Summer softball is a continuation of the Spring season.  Summer ball starts in mid June and runs through to the middle of August.  Depending on the amount of girls to sign up - Burlington offers a 10U, 12U, 14U, and 18U - A team -  There are two games during the weeknight with no games during the weekends.  The rosters consists of 13-15 girls.  The summer league is a step up from our spring rec. league and players are more advanced from each of the towns in the league.  Tryout dates will be determined very soon.
