 Attention
Teenagers !!!!!
(and others, too!)
Sign ups are OVER
to
Umpire the Ripken A and AA
Leagues
Are
you either Male or
Female?
So far, so good ???????

Are you 15 or over, need spending money and of sound
mind? If so, the BBSA would like to
hire you to umpire the A and AA baseball games, when they are played this
coming spring. You do not
need to be certified to umpire these games;
you just need reasonable judgment, a working knowledge
of baseball and a desire to have fun!
The BBSA will pay you $20 per game(!), for you to
umpire in the 9 and 10 year old Burlington leagues. More money than
babysitting or Market Basket and easier too
(except for the occasional blockhead parent who takes this stuff too
seriously...) ! Soooooooo, be a sport,
have fun, and earn money all at the same time (wow, it just doesn't
get any better than that!)
To get on the list, simply
e-mail this website!
with your name, age, and telephone number.
That's it!!
The BBSA will call you to confirm that you really want
to umpire, then we'll put you on the list, and when the spring leagues
start, we'll give you a call! You don't need a uniform or
anything!
Sooooooo.... "Do It Today!"
Just e-mail BBSA2008@aol.com
and let Earl know that you want to umpire when the spring leagues start
rollin'! You'll be glad you
did, ... and so will we! |
|

Hey, You older people!!!
16yrs or older, that
is....
Want to become a Certified Umpire, make the really
big bucks,
and call kids out at home plate, ...even
when they're NOT ?!?!?!

Well, the Greater Lowell Baseball
Umpires' Association's (GLBUA) Winter Clinic is almost over,
but you have plenty of time to look
into the upcoming Summer Clinic,
which will take place on Saturdays,
at Hunt Gym beside Emerson Park!

Bob Dicey is the contact person -
603 598-1686
Also, you can go to
GLBUA.com
to find out all there is to know
(well, almost)
about umpiring and the Lowell Umpires'
Association !
It's an excellent website
(I just went there to find out...)!
Go on, push the envelope
(that means do something different;
stretch yourself) and become an
umpire!
You'll have fun, make extra mulah
and be helping out the BBSA all at the same time! Really!

Did you know:
1. That the
Burlington Baseball Website actually has 6 addresses?
They are Burlingtonbaseball.com, Burlingtonsoftball.com.
Burlingtonbaseballsoftballassociation.com,
Burlingtonbaseball.us, Burlingtonsoftball.us and
Burlingtonbaseballsoftballassociation.us.
2.
That for
Ripken A thru Ripken Major:
"Each player shall play 9
defensive outs in every game."? All coaches have to keep a
running tally of all players'
playing time, via the
Players Playing
Time Form, for each and every game of the season.
3. That Earl will STILL
give a buffalo nickel to anyone who can tell him who won
the Junior, and
Intermediate Softball Championships in 2003 (not 2004)?
UPDATE: Earl's
raised the stakes to a Roosevelt dime. Won't some softball league director
check his back
season's softball book, and e-mail in? "The
Champions!!"
page on this
website is missing two teams from the 2003 season.
2007 Update -
Earl now is offering an autographed photo
of 6 members of the cast of "Lost" for this information. This is an
autographed original, not a copy, and Earl
has the COA. The person providing the information must provide proof that
the information is accurate.
4. That for Coaches and Parents, there is a YouTube video
worthy of your consideration?
It's
a 9 minute
speech by University of Minnesota Hockey head coach
Don Lucia
which could apply to all
Youth Sports.
Go to YouTube.com,
type in
Don Lucia (in the search box) and click his video when it comes up after the
search.

Earl,
that Baseball Junkie..
recently wrote a letter to the BBSA coaches, but it's something
the parents might want to read too,
soooo... "here it is!"
Dear BBSA Managers and Coaches,
Welcome to another year of baseball and
softball, and thanks for volunteering your time this season.
As a team coach there are a few things you
can do to help ensure a smooth running website which will make the
season more enjoyable for everyone, especially the kids.
Most important:
(This does not apply to T-Ball, Farm or Rookie, but it does for
every other softball and baseball league)
1. After every game,
please e-mail this website with your score, win or lose.
From EVERY team and
after EVERY game, I need:
- The name of your
league
- The name of the 2
teams which played, with the correct final score
- The date played
and
- If it's a
makeup game, I need to know the date the original game was supposed
to have been played
- If you are NOT
playing for some reason (rain), please e-mail the website to let me
know that your game was delayed or rained out. PLEASE!
Also -
Think of the website as a fun information and communication
vehicle. There is a section for journalistic write-ups, called
The Sports Pages.
Feel free to do a write-up of a game, or many games. Or assign a
parent to do it.
There's also a section called
The Photo Album,
with over 1000 from the past 5 years. Take some digital photos, or
have a parent do it, sent them in and I'll put them up. There are
some GREAT photos there. Please keep adding to them this year.
There's also a lost and found, a Bulletin Board, and
The 7th Inning Stretch (check it out). If there is anything
missing that you'd like to see, let me know.
Thanks... !

From the BBSA Baseball
Commissioner
May 22, 2005
1.) Please be advised that if any team has a
player that missed four
consecutive games, the manager must notify their league rep or the
commissioner. The board will decide the course of action. Most
cases will
require a player to be brought up from the league below that league.
Permanent vacancies MUST be filled by another player from the league
below
that league. See rule 4 in the rules and regulations, which all managers
should have received at the beginning of the year, or look at the rules
in
the web site.
2.) Mercy rules. Please read rule 3 concerning lopsided scores.
All managers in all levels should know the rules. If you have a question
see your league rep or the commissioner. The excuse " I didn't know the
rule" is not acceptable when the rules are available to all.
|
|
Ripken A thru Ripken Majors
Did you know it is a rule that :
"Each player shall play 9
defensive outs in every game."?
Managers are supposed to make sure that every player who shows up at the
beginning of the game and continues to be able to play throughout the game
(that is, he or she is not injured, and the game is not postponed because of
rain), plays 9 defensive outs, if the game goes 6 complete innings, and even if
the game only goes 5 1\2 innings because the home team, which has "last ups", has
won.

Distance from base to base (home plate
included): 90 feet
Size of bases: 15 inches by 15 inches.
Pitcher's plate: 24 inches by 6 inches.
Batter's box: 4 feet by 6 feet.
Home plate: Five-sided, 17 inches by 8 1/2 inches by 8
1/2 inches by 12 inches by 12 inches, cut to a
point at rear.
Home plate to backstop: Not less than 60 feet (recommended).
Weight of ball: Not less than 5 ounces nor more than 5 1/4

says..........
"Hey Kids!!!!
...of any age...
Last year, my son and I visited the 2004 Red Sox Spring
Training Camp in
Fort Myers, Florida!! If you've never been there,
you might enjoy looking at some of the photographs I took, so you can
see what it's like!
Just go to "The
Sandlot" section of this website and scroll down, way down, to
the spinning ball in the middle of the page. Click on the ball and it
will take you to my Red Sox photo album, where you can see some of the
action at last year's Spring Training!

To Coaches and Managers

The single most important job a manager can
do, regarding your obligation to the website, is this:
send in your team scores! All coaches of all
competitive leagues (Ripken Single A through Babe Ruth Majors
and all Softball leagues) should
E-mail in their scores to the website after every
game. You may e-mail to either
BBSA2007@aol.com or
pwjcl@aol.com. When e-mailing your scores:
Always
1) Identify
your team by name and league

2)
Identify the name of the team you played
3)
Give your complete name
4)
Remember to mention who won and lost
Don’t
1)
Rely on the other team’s manager to send in the score, even if he
agrees to do so. He’ll forget.
2)
Rely on the League Director to send in the score. He’ll forget.
3)
Wait until the end of the week to send in scores. You’ll forget.
And by then it’s too late for the kids who have been logging on all week
to check out the standings.
It’s up to you to send in your team’s score
after each game. If the other team happens to send in the score as
well, fine; it’s better to have a duplication of information than no
information at all. If, for some reason, you feel you can’t send in the
scores after a game, then assign a competent parent to do so, for
every game. Or a ballplayer.
But make sure it gets done!

Bats!!
(Not the flying kind....)
Did you know......?
- that in the Ripken Leagues, the
maximum bat length allowed is 32", with no weight
limit???
- that in the 13
year old Babe Ruth Minors, there is no restriction regarding bat length or
weight???
- that in 14 & 15
yr. Babe Ruth Majors, there is a "3 oz. differential", which means that the
the
weight of the bat may be no more that 3 ounces more or less than the length
of the bat??
(Example
- If the length of a bat is 34 inches, the bat can weigh no less than 31
oz.
and no more than of 37 oz.)
-
that in the Babe Ruth of America State (Summer) Tournament, there is no
differential,
regarding bat
weight and size??? (A bat may be any length and any weight.)

THE CORI APPLICATION
*It is
required that the CORI form be filled out by all managers, coaches,
assistant coaches and adult helpers participating in BBSA Baseball.
Failure to fill out this form and mail it to the BBSA may result in your ineligibility to participate in BBSA
Baseball.for
every game. Or a ballplayer.
But make sure it gets done!
